How do I access a clients Instagram account? Do I need the password to manage Twitter for a client? What level of access do I need to manage Facebook for someone? How can I manage a client's LinkedIn?

If we had £1 every time we got asked this question we would both be a little step closer to paying off our mortgages right now!

So here is our quick guide to help you access a clients accounts when you are managing their socials.

#1 How to get admin access on a Facebook business page.

If you are going to manage a client's Facebook page you will need access to it to be able to post on their behalf, see their notifications and make changes to their settings. You may also need to access their Facebook group and ad account.

The first thing to remember is that Facebook requires you to have a personal profile in order to access a business page. You do not have to have your own business page in order to access someone elses, but as a social media manager we expect you would have one for your own marketing purposes.

Facebook page roles offer various levels of access and which you require will depend on the level of work you are offering to your social media management client. We always try to get admin permissions to our client's Facebook pages so we don’t have to keep going back to the client if we need more access.

Your client will need to follow the instructions below to give you access to their Facebook business page

  • Go to the business page.
  • Navigate to settings.
  • Select page roles.
  • Assign the level of access they choose.
  • You should see a notification once you have been given page rights.

How to grant admin rights on a Facebook group

If you will be working as a community manager in your client's Facebook groups then you'll need to have admin or moderator rights in the group as well. You can then choose whether to interact as yourself or the business page.

You will need to be a member of the Facebook group so that your client can grant admin rights. They can then simply navigate to the members list, click the 3 dots next to your name and choose the access permissions you require.

How to login to a clients Instagram account

To access your clients Instagram page you’ll need the login details of their business profile.

Some clients are happy to give you their passwords, others are not. So that is a conversation best had with the client.

If they don’t wish to give you the password you can use a service such as LastPass to get access without ever needing to see the password.

How to access your client's Twitter account

To be able to Tweet as your client you’ll need their login details. Some clients are happy to give you their passwords, others are not. So that is a conversation best had with the client.

If they don’t wish to give you the password you can use a service such as LastPass to get access without ever needing to see the password.

How to manage your clients LinkedIn profile

If you are managing a clients personal LinkedIn profile you’ll need their login details and as with the other platforms, some clients are happy to give you their passwords, others are not.

If they don’t wish to give you the password you can use a service such as LastPass to get access without ever needing to see the password.

How to manage your client's LinkedIn Business Page

If you are managing a LinkedIn business page, you will need to have your own personal profile and your client can then give you admin rights so you can access the page.

  • Navigate to the business page
  • Pull down the ‘admin tools’ menu on the right hand side
